The Corrosion Control Technical Specialist reports to the Manager of Pipeline Integrity for Enbridge’s Central Region in Nashville, Tennessee.
The candidate will be responsible for providing training and technical guidance for Area Corrosion Control technicians with respect to the Company’s Employee Qualification Program as well as the Operator Qualification training, evaluation, and Region approval sign-off. Additionally, this person will provide training to technicians to disseminate knowledge on new equipment, procedures (Standard Operating Procedures), as well as testing and assessment diagnostic methods and tools to address various pipeline integrity threats.
This position will need to have experience in performing anomaly bell-hole investigation assessments along with the required assessment techniques, calculations methods, SOP interpretation knowledge, documentation processes and repair methods. This is not a primary function of this position but rather this position will need to, from time to time, provide training and or assistance with these tasks to ensure field technicians are performing them in accordance with Company Standard Operating Procedures.
Candidate will participate and or manage all aspects of the Region’s Close Interval Survey (CIS) Program from setting and maintaining a 10 year assessment program; bidding and managing CIS contractor(s) to complete the required year’s survey work; working with Houston Technical Staff to interpret final survey reports and develop appropriate remediation action plans; managing the implementation of the determined remediation such as re-coat projects, ground bed and or rectifier installation; and authoring reports summarizing the year’s assessment and remediation work. This work may also include managing the installation of Remote Monitoring Units on Company rectifiers. Additionally, this person will coordinate of all these activities with Company Area offices along with all logistic tasks, such as the schedule and timing of the mowing program to support the CI Surveys.
This successful candidate should possess extensive knowledge in internal and external corrosion control with respect to natural gas pipeline operations. Additionally, the candidate shall possess a working knowledge of other pipeline integrity threats (these threats include Stress Corrosion Cracking, construction defects, equipment failures, third party damage, incorrect operations, and weather related and outside forces) as well as the threat’s mitigative and preventative measures.
Candidate will need to be well versed in Company Policy and Procedures in order to be the Region Technical lead during PHMSA field audits. This will include responding to auditor’s questions, assisting Area personnel in developing or finding appropriate documentation, demonstrating technical expertise in performing Corrosion Control Technician tasks.
The successful candidate will assist in the development of Region policies, procedures, and guidelines and ensure that these and other company procedures, as well as local, state and federal guidelines, regulations and laws are met within Region.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
• Leader in problem solving for multiple products and platforms. They provide leadership and direction to field technicians as required to resolve maintenance issues and as an advisor on Capital Projects.
• Assist cost estimating, budgeting, and in obtaining clear scope definitions in order to obtain accurate cost estimates and project definitions.
• Responsible for scheduling, cost control and forecasting for the assigned projects and reporting these to the Manager of Measurement & Telecommunications.
• Participate in design reviews with the Company’s Engineering & Construction Department for review and approval of design criteria and construction drawing packages.
• Formulate material bid specifications and requisitions; evaluate bids and make material selections.
• Work with the Procurement group to order materials for on-time delivery to the job site.
• Provide technical direction and assistance to area/field employees through training, written, and verbal communication to operate, install test and assess company facilities in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.
• Assist in developing and maintaining company specifications and standards.
• Promotes integrity work process (flow), recommends changes and improvements. Actively engages in ensuring process adherence and compliance. Works to ensure hand offs and gaps in work process are identified and addressed.
• Associate’s degree in a technically related field, plus 4 yrs experience in gas transmission or a related field OR 6 years minimum experience in technically related field
• Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer applications such as Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, SAP, and PCS.
• Ability to train others and evaluate and recommend training of others in the corrosion control and pipeline integrity field.
• Demonstrated ability to self-manage, set priorities and establish goals as well as work effectively with others in a team environment.
• Possess advanced troubleshooting skills and stays abreast of new technology.
• Ability to lead others on projects and resolving operational issues.
• Must be adaptable to changing project types and workloads.
• Must be able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Achieved Level II Corrosion Control Technician.
• 10 years experience in the Corrosion Control field.
• Residence Requirements: Successful candidate must reside within 30 miles of the Central Region’s Nashville, Tennessee Office.
• Perform physically demanding activities in all types of weather conditions.
• Will to work overtime, be on call, and travel overnight.
• Overnight Travel 40% - 50%.
